Welcome,

Domain Specific Modeling

Domain specific modeling (DSM) is a methodology that enables use of graphical views to represent aspects of a system in a way that allows a user to focus on the specific attributes. The benefit is that this can reduce the effort required to define the system and improve communication with domain specialists and end customers who are often not SysML or UML experts. An example of a DSM are the architecture frameworks DoDAF and MODAF which have a set of graphical views and notations providing focus on the means to model, understand, analyze and specify Capabilities, Systems, Systems of Systems, and Business Processes.

Artisan Studio’s DSM capabilities enables users to modify the graphical representation of SysML/UML items, define new views, browsers and add scripts. As an example, users can automate the creation of items, enforce consistency, process or automatically create new diagrams. Artisan uses its DSM capabilities to build its own profiles, such as the Studio DoDAF profile which provides browsers, new graphic icons and all 29 diagrams required by the DoD. Using Artisan Studio’s DSM capabilities ensures that models are built utilizing the industry standards of OMG SysML and UML to ensure model consistency and traceability allowing model information to be reused and protecting the opportunity to exchange model information.
