Artisan launches Artisan Studio: DoD Architect Edition

Apr 20, 2009 - 16:15 PM

These editions support the Collaborative Visual Modeling needs of Enterprise Architects who are required to deliver US Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) compliant architecture models.

“Architectural frameworks are hugely important in defense procurement and DoDAF is currently defined as the standard means for describing them in model based design tools,” said Matthew Hause, Chief Consultant at Artisan Software Tools and co-chair of the UPDM Group. “DoDAF modeling tools provide huge benefits for developers of military systems, in terms of consistency, quality, tool interoperability and cost savings.”

Artisan Studio DoD Architect Edition; is a state of the art Collaborative Visual Modeling which includes a DoDAF Profile. This solution also provides consistency checks and support for budget allocation. A common database repository ensures architectural consistency across the full range of DoDAF views, as well as multi-user access for truly distributed communication. The fully configurable, built-in document publisher completes the package, to distribute DoDAF designs both inside and outside an organization.

Artisan Studio DoD Advanced Architect Edition: this edition adds additional value through simulation. Executable Architectures provide an effective way of sharing architecture visions to a wide range of stakeholders. Executable

Architectures also enhance the ability to validate architectures based on operational processes and discover hidden or overlooked requirements. They provide useful insight into the usefulness of the system, as well as documenting, validating, refining and communicating strategic objectives. Finally, Executable Architectures also allow you to conduct trade analyses in the systems engineering space and perform Capability Gap Analysis.

“We are thrilled to be launching the Artisan Studio: DoD Architect Editions,” stated Hedley Apperly, VP Marketing at Artisan Software Tools. “They build on the proven success of Artisan’s existing DoDAF profile by recognizing that specific product configurations respond directly to customer and market demands.”

These new editions of Artisan Studio are based upon the OMG SysML and UML standards. They also align with Artisan´s Work-as-One™ philosophy.

About DoDAF
DoDAF is administered by the US Undersecretary of Defense for Business Transformation’s DoDAF Working Group. It was formerly named C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) Architecture Framework. All major U.S. Government Department of Defense (DoD) weapons and information technology system acquisitions are required to develop and document Enterprise Architectures using the views prescribed in DoDAF. Other derivative frameworks based on DoDAF include the Ministry of Defense (United Kingdom) Architecture Framework (MODAF), and the NATO Architecture Framework (NAF). The Unified Profile for DoDAF/MODAF (UPDM): UPDM is the product of an Object Management Group (OMG) initiative to develop a modeling standard that supports both the USA Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and the UK Ministry of Defence Architecture Framework (MODAF) – UPDM.
