Artisan Launches Artisan Studio Uno
Free-of-charge fully functional, single-user version of Artisan Studio will transform the SysML/UML development tools market
Dec 02, 2008 - 02:30 AM
“Of course, free UML® and SysML modeling tools have been available before but nothing of an enterprise scale that is truly industry proven like Artisan Studio Uno,” said James B. Gambrell, CEO of Artisan Software Tools. “Artisan Studio Uno represents a seismic shift in the availability of SysML/UML development tools that has the potential to transform the dynamics of the market.”
Artisan Studio Uno provides the perfect entry-level toolset for standards-based, model-driven systems and software development using OMG SysML™ and UML. Artisan Studio Uno delivers the same functionality that has earned Artisan Studio® its enviable pedigree in supporting collaborative, complex, mission and safety-critical systems and software development for the most demanding customers in the military, aerospace and defense, automotive and medical industries.
Artisan Studio Uno implements and automates the OMG SysML and UML standards to present systems and software engineers with design views that are precisely tailored to their needs. It enables them to clearly capture system requirements, structure and behavior, using requirements diagrams, parametric diagrams and block diagrams, to name but a few. These views enable all stakeholders to improve their understanding of the planned systems while ensuring that the requirements are agreed and mapped through to the system designs. If the project grows beyond the limit of the single user version, the Artisan Studio Uno models can be imported into the fully multi-user version, Artisan Studio. The modeling investment is therefore protected and major project expansion can be accommodated.
“Artisan Studio Uno provides systems and software engineers with a quick, easy and low cost way to get started with OMG SysML and UML,” said Hedley Apperly, Vice President of Marketing at Artisan Software Tools. “Capable of providing complete support for the project lifecycle from conception through implementation and maintenance, it is ideal for use by individual systems and software engineers and small development teams working on real world projects.”
Artisan Studio Uno includes Artisan Rose Importer and Artisan Document Generator. Artisan’s Rose Importer allows legacy UML models originally developed using Rational Rose to be imported into Artisan Studio Uno, reducing manual effort when migrating from this early UML modeling tool. The Artisan Document Generator pulls diagrams and text from the models to automatically generate design documents for review by key project stakeholders throughout the design process. This increases communication and ensures the right product requirements are being met, earlier in the project lifecycle.
“We are convinced that Artisan Studio Uno will further invigorate the design and development of complex systems of systems by providing zero cost of entry,” concluded James B. Gambrell. “Systems engineers will be encouraged and motivated to quickly adopt OMG SysML as the state-of-the-art development standard. Not only is the tool itself innovative but it will support the innovation of thousands of systems engineers worldwide, ultimately increasing the uptake of Artisan Studio by geographically dispersed development teams for use on complex, mission and safety-critical systems and software development and further advancing our Work as OneTM philosophy.”
